Ruth A. (Knapp) Byers, a longtime resident of Dedham, passed peacefully on Tuesday evening July 2nd at the Emeritas of Plymouth Care Center in Plymouth, Massachusetts after visits from her family. She played canasta on Monday and she had dined on her favorite Hershey’s Kisses and strawberry ice cream with chocolate syrup and whipped cream until the end. Ruth was born August 3, 1918 in South Boston, MA, a daughter of Harry B. and Helen A. (Chaplin) Knapp. Ruth was the treasurer and clerk of her husband’s oil company, Byers Fuel. She loved her family and St. John’s/St. Stevens Methodist Church, where she was a longtime member. Ruth was the wife of the late George A. Byers Sr., and the mother of the late John Byers. She is survived by her children, Ralph Byers of Walpole, George A. Byers Jr of Auburn, Janice R. Byers of Texas, James E. Byers of Assonet, and Nancy J. Sullivan of Plymouth. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held Friday, July 5th from 9 AM to 12:30 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 MIlton Street, Dedham. A funeral service at the funeral home with the Reverend Stephen Dale of St. Stephen’s Methodist Church officiating will follow the visitation and burial will be in Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree. Donations in Ruth’s memory to St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church, 5160 Washington Street, West Roxbury, MA 02132 would be appreciated.
