Robert (Bob) Charles Murray, 78, of Canton, and beloved husband of Marilyn for 45 years, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025, surrounded by family who cherished him deeply. Born in Elmhurst, New York, to the late Charles and Florence (Noeker) Murray, Bob graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in Accounting before proudly serving as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
A dedicated certified public accountant, Bob began his career as an audit supervisor at Coopers & Lybrand. He continued to excel in senior financial management roles at Brooks Brothers, Catherine’s, Morse Shoes, and Talbots, Inc., ultimately earning the position of Vice President at ACS UPRR. Prior to joining UPRR, he served as a senior associate with Connolly Consulting Associates.
However, it was Bob’s outgoing nature—his genuine interest in care for others—that truly defined him. A father figure to many beyond his own two daughters, Bob was generous with his time and wisdom. From the moment you met him, you felt like a friend—whether you were talking about everyday life or wrestling with conflicting viewpoints, he listened with an open mind and empathetic heart. This ability to connect endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bob always sought joy in life–listening to favorites like Frank Sinatra and Willie Nelson, dedicating himself to the upkeep of his home, and spending countless hours in his yard and garden from spring through fall. Bob loved to travel, always trying to find opportunities to visit various National Parks across the country, or excuses to visit his favorite beach in South Yarmouth. He was also a dedicated member of St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dedham.
Bob is survived by his wife Marilyn; his daughters Anne Brennan and her husband Michael of North Reading, and Jennifer Jaszek and her husband Jon of Boston; and his three grandchildren, Eva, Charlie, and Isabelle. He also leaves behind his sister, Penny Theriaque; nieces Kristen and Elizabeth; nephews Brian and David; and their children.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Sunday, April 6, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Folsom & May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols Street in Norwood, MA. A celebration of Bob’s life will follow on Monday, April 7, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 950 East Street, Dedham, followed by his interment at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton with Military Honors presented by the Army.
