Norman Rosgruse Barrett, a lifelong resident of Dedham, died Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the Wingate at Needham Nursing Home. He was 92. Norman was born September 14, 1921 in Dedham, Massachusetts, the son of Norman G. and Eliese (Dietzel) Barrett. He graduated from Dedham High School with the Class of 1939 and attended Electrical School and Radio/TV school before working briefly as an electroplater and polisher for Scholastic Jewelers of West Roxbury. Norman enlisted in the Navy in August of 1942 and spent three years as a machinist motor mate second class. After the war he worked for 29 years as an electrician for Hersey Manufacturing in Dedham until his retirement in 1984. Norman was a longtime member of VFW Post 2017 in Dedham. He enjoyed bowling and raising pigeons, and he loved dogs, music, and making and fixing things. Norman will be remembered for his great sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Jean N. (Jordan) Barrett; his two daughters, Linda Barrett of Rumsey, California and Nancy Barrett King, and her husband Eugene, of Upper Arlington, Ohio; his son, William N. Barrett, and his wife Ina, of Norwood; his sister, Ruth Tague of Dedham; his three grandchildren, Caroline King Willson, Jordan King, and Alexander William Barrett; his two great grandchildren, Taylor Cael and Charles Willson, and his sister-in-law, Ruth Barrett. He was the brother of the late William Barrett and the late Phyllis DeCoste. Visiting hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Saturday at 11 AM at the funeral home followed by burial in Brookdale Cemetery in Dedham.
