Norman Edward Rickard, a resident of New Pond Village in Walpole, and formerly of Norwood, Naples, Maine, and Franklin, died Thursday, December 4, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Norwood, He was 86. Norman was born August 8, 1928 in Quincy, Massachusetts, the youngest child of Harold Edward and Bessie H. (Williams) Rickard, immigrants from Canada. Norman graduated from North Quincy High School , attended Bentley College in Waltham , and graduated with his accounting degree from Boston University. He worked as a self employed certified public accountant, later to be joined by his son. Norman was a resident of Norwood for 35 years during which he served the town for two terms as a member of the Finance Commission, and for many years as a Town Meeting Member. He was a Past President of the United Fund of Norwood; a member of Orient Lodge AF & AM of Norwood, and a member of Mahded Grotto Shrine in Wilmington; and he was very active in Rotary, having earned multiple Paul Harris Fellowships, and having been a Past President of the Norwood Rotary Club, a member of the Bridgeton Lake Regional Rotary Club in Maine, and the Fryberg Rotary Club, in Maine, which he helped to form. In his retirement years he enjoyed camping and square dancing, but his greatest happiness came from watching his grandsons; Allen playing lacrosse, and Matthew singing and dancing on stage. Norman is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy White (Whitney) Rickard; his son, Wesley H. Rickard, and his wife Alice, of Franklin; his daughter, Wendy Rickard Bruso, and her husband Louis, of Jamaica, Vermont; his two grandsons, Matthew, and Allen Rickard; and his brother, Thomas H. Rickard of Florida. He was the brother of the late Frances A. Merkel. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, December 9th from 4 to 7 PM at the May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols Street, Norwood followed by a Memorial Service at 7 PM in the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations to the Ecumenical Food Pantry of Norwood, c/o Grace Episcopal Church. 150 Chapel Street, Norwood, MA 02062 would be appreciated.
