Raffael “Ray” Civitarese, a resident of Dedham since 1955, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at his home in Dedham.  He was 91. Ray was born March 3, 1918 in Boston, one of the twelve children of Alphonce and Rita (Marinucci) Civitarese, immigrants from Italy.  He graduated from Hyde Park High School with the Class of 1936 and joined the US Marine Corp from which he was honorably discharged in 1940.  Raffael worked for 42 years as a locomotive engineer with the Boston and Maine Railroad and the Southside Boston Railroad until his retirement in 1985.  Ray was a member of the Old Railroad Wheels.  He was also an avid gardener, and a member of the Dedham Horticultural Society and the Hobby Greenhouse Association of Eastern Massachusetts.  Raffael was the father of the late Marie Marsh-DePinho and the brother of the late Domenic, Louis, Anthony, Nicholas, and Joseph Civitarese, Jean Forgit, and Dorothy Grant.  Raffael is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marjorie Louise (Arnott); his son, Paul, and his wife Donna Civitarese of Foxboro; his three daughters, Ann Pucillo of Franklin, Charlene, and her husband Jim Magee of Braintree, and Michelle, and her husband Steven McColgan of Dedham; his sister, Mary Lennon of Walpole; his brother, Edward “Chickie” Civitarese of Port Orange, Florida; as well as 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren.  Visiting hours will be held Thursday, November 12 from 4-8 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham.  Relatives and friends will gather at the funeral home Friday, November 13th at 8 AM and proceed to St. Mary’s Church, 420 High Street, Dedham for his Mass of Christian Burial at 9 o clock.  Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery in Dedham.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Caritas Good Samaritan Hospice, 3 Edgewater Drive, Norwood, MA 02062 or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 would be appreciated.
