Paul Hayward, a resident of Dedham for 57 years, died Monday, March 14th, 2011 at the West Roxbury VA Hospital in Boston after a short illness.  He was 87.  Paul was born November 30, 1923 in Boston, Massachusetts, one of the six children of Henry and Catherine (Casey) Hayward. He served in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946 as s seaman first class on the USS Colahan (DD658).  Paul was a retired engineer with the Massachusetts Department of Public Works, and a former commander of the Dedham Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He was a well known figure in the Town of Dedham and a long time elected Town of Dedham public official with the planning board.  He was a jovial participant in town meetings for over 40 years where he was a staunch advocate of people before buildings.  Paul greatly enjoyed his grandchildren and avidly followed their academic and sporting pursuits.  He was also a lifelong parishioner of St. Anne’s Parish in Readville, MA.  Paul is survived by his wife, Virginia M. (Donahue) Hayward; his son, Mark Hayward, and his wife Laura, of Glendale, Rhode Island; his siblings, David Hayward and Catherine Hayward; and his grandchildren, Vaughn, Garrett, and Nolan Hayward, and Ashley Gorham.  He was the brother of the late Henry and William Hayward , and Molly Herlihy.  Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham.  Relatives and friends will gather at the funeral home Friday at 9 AM and proceed to St. Anne’s Church, 82 West Milton Street, Readville for his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o clock.  Burial with military honors will follow in Brookdale Cemetery in Dedham.
