LeRoy H. “Roy” Nordstrom died peacefully on June 24 th at Maples Nursing Home in Wrentham. He was 84.
Born August 23, 1928, Roy grew up in Norwood and graduated from Norwood High School. After serving in the Army in both WWII and the Korean War, he married Sally Montcalm of Hyannis. His work career included working for Beacon Plastics, Hill Machine and Ingersoll Rand where he retired holding the position of machine programmer.
Roy is survived by Sally, his wife of 61 years as well as his children Pam Snell, Judith Nordstrom, Peter Nordstrom and Eric Nordstrom and grandchildren Matt Snell, Beth Cohen, Kevin Corcoran, Katherine Corcoran, Garrett Nordstrom, Andrew Nordstrom and Ryan Nordstrom.
Roy was a long time resident of Walpole. He was a member of the North Walpole Fish and Game Club as well as an avid gardener. His later years allowed him to show off his fine woodworking skills as he delighted his family and friends with his beautiful workmanship in such items as tables, benches, chairs, jewelry boxes and other pieces of fine furniture. He spent much of his time designing and creating unique and unusual birdhouses. Made of solid hardwoods, Roy enjoyed painstakingly cutting each piece of wood into the intricate shapes that made his birdhouses and birdfeeders so special.
The wake will be held on Thursday, June 27 th at May Funeral Home in Norwood from 4 – 8. Services will be held on Friday, June 28 th at the First Congregational Church in Norwood. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Norwood.
