Katherine Florence “Kay” Carvill, a resident of Westwood for 65 years, died Saturday, February 21st, 2009 at her home in Westwood.  She was 88.  Kay was born May 3, 1920 in Boston, Massachusetts, one of four children of Harry and Betty (Halum) Cohan.  She grew up in Dedham and graduated with the Class of 1940 from Dedham High School.  An industrious woman, Kay held many jobs including employment at Plymouth Rubber, the A&P Warehouse, as a cashier for Brockelman’s Market in Islington and it’s successor, The Farm Stand, and finally working for the Norfolk Answering Service.  In her younger years she enjoyed square dancing with the Do Si Do’s and the Crazy 8’s.  She was a member of Contentment Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and of the VFW Auxilliary.  She was an active member of the Islington Community Church, and after that church closed, of the First Baptist Church of Westwood, and she enjoyed singing in the choirs of both churches.  Kay was the wife of the late William J. “Bill” Carvill Jr., a retired Westwood Police Officer, and the mother of the late William G. “Billy” Carvill, and the sister of the late Richard Cohan, and the late Lloyd Cohan.  She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy A. Girard, and her husband Vincent, of Westwood; her son, Bradford L. Carvill, and his wife Karen, of Readville; her daughter-in-law Josephine Carvill of Readville; her sister, Dorothy Manning of California; and her grandchildren, Melissa, Bridget, and Richard Carvill, and Paul Girard.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service Wednesday, February 25th at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church, 808 High Street, Westwood.  Private burial of Kay’s cremains will be held in Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.  In lieu of flowers donations to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or to VNA care Hospice, Development Office, 5 Federal Street, Danvers, MA 01923 would be appreciated.
