Jason Richard Stearns, a resident of Naples, Florida for the past 12 years, and formerly of DuBois, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, November 16th, 2008 at his daughter’s home in Norwood, Massachusetts after a brief illness. He was 79. Mr. Stearns was born in St. Albans, New York. He graduated from Dwight High School in New York City, New York and earned his Bachelors Degree from State University Maritime College of New York. He served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict, serving as the Chief Engineer on a destroyer. After the war he worked in the naval nuclear reactor program, eventually transferring to the Nuclear and Advanced Technology Division of Westinghouse Corporation in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, where he worked for 23 years until his retirement in 1990. Jason loved the sea, and was an avid boater. He also enjoyed playing golf while in DuBois, Pennsylvania and was a Deacon in his Presbyterian Church in New Jersey. He was the husband of the late Beatrice Joyce (Donaldson) Stearns and the brother of the late Frank Stearns. He is survived by two sons, Lawrence Jason Stearns of Allison Park, Pennsylvania, and Scott Donaldson Stearns of Rochester, New York; two daughters, Deborah Joyce Stearns-Kurosawa of Newton, Massachusetts, and Carol Florence Stearns of Norwood, Massachusetts; a brother, Henry Stearns of San Antonio, Texas; six grandsons, Kenn, Sean, Casey, George, Cory, and Robin; and his granddaughter, Sara. Interment will be in Morningside Cemetery in DuBois, Pennsylvania on Friday, November 28th, 2008 at 1 PM.
