Melvin August Anderson, a resident of Plainville since 1989, but formerly of Norwood for 70 years, died Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011, at the Maples Nursing Home in Wrentham. He was 91. Melvin was born July 6, 1919 in Norwood, Massachusetts, one of the four children of John and Alina (Carlson) Anderson. He graduated from Norwood High School and spent two years studying accounting at Bentley College in Waltham. Before joining the US Army during World War Two, he worked as a bookbinder for Plympton Press in Norwood. After his honorable dicharge in 1943 as a corporal, he worked as an accountant for the Foxboro company for 34 years until his retirement in 1979. Melvin was an active member, and former treasurer, of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Norwood, as well as a member of the Swedish Runenberg Club. Melvin was also an avid fan of the Red Sox and Patriots. Melvin was the husband of the late Mary (Dawson) Anderson and the brother of the late Harold Anderson, Elin Peterson, and Ruth Anderson. He is survived by his wife Catherine “Kay” Mary (MacDonald) Anderson; his son, Richard A. Anderson, and his wife June, of North Attleboro; his two daughters, Christina Anderson, and her husband Earl Landry, of Stoughton, and Karen hanlon, and her husband Edward, of Marlborough; and his four grandchildren, Michelle Landry, David Landry, Mark Anderson, and Kyle Hanlon. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, February 6th, from 3 to 7 PM at the May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols Street, Norwood. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service Monday, February 7th at 11 AM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 24 Berwick Street, Norwood. A Private burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Norwood. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Memorial Fund of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 24 Berwick Street, Norwood, MA 02062 would be appreciated.
