Martha J. Rainey

Martha Jean Rainey, a longtime resident of Dedham, died Thursday, September 7, 2023 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Needham. She was 81. Martha was born October 10, 1941 in Easton, Massachusetts the youngest daughter of Bernard James Jr., and Mary Elizabeth (Cruikshank) Talbot. She graduated from Oliver Ames High School in Easton and earned her Bachelor degree in English from Northeastern University. Martha worked in the personnel department as the benefits director for Norfolk and Dedham Insurance Company in Dedham until her retirement in 2006. She volunteered as a Cub Scout Pack leader when her sons were young. Martha enjoyed league bowling and roller skating at Roll Land in Norwood. She was the partner of the late Charles Chase, mother of the late Erik L. Rainey, and was grandmother to an angel grandchild. She is survived by her son, Glenn M. Rainey, and his wife Jean, of Dedham; her daughter Lynn Rainey, and her fiance, Eric, of Scituate; five grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, September 10th from 5pm to 7:30 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 7:30 pm. Interment will be private.
