Marilyn Anne (Chamberlain) May, a funeral director in the Town of Norwood for over 15 years, and the former owner of the May Funeral Home on Nichols Street in Norwood, died Sunday, January 1, 2017 at the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood. She was 81. Marilyn was born February 18, 1935 in Norwood, Massachusetts, the daughter of Paul R. and Margaret L. (Alber) Chamberlain. She was the wife of the late Russell Winslow May, the mother of the late Richard W.May, and the sister of the late Bruce R. Chamberlain. Marilyn is survived by her two daughters, Laurie Jo Ahern, of Norwood, and Lynda May Gundlach, and her husband Todd, of Norwood; her seven grandchildren, Derek and Kevin May, Robert and James Ahern, Hayley and Chelsey Gundlach, and April May; and three great grandchildren, John, Derek Jr., and Tayler May. Marilyn was a member of the United Church of Norwood where she served on the Women’s Service Guild, sang in the choir, and worked as the secretry of the church for 10 years. She was also a member, and Past Vice President of the Norwood Rotary Club. After the death of her husband, Marilyn attended and graduated from FINE (the Funeral Institute of the North East ) Mortuary College where she became a licensed Funeral Director and took over the ownership and operation of the May Funeral Home in Norwood. She retired in 2002. Marilyn was also a member of the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association (MFDA) and the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), and the Norwood Chamber of Commerce. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, January 3rd, 2017 from 4 to 8 pm at the Folsom & May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols Street, Norwood. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Wednesday at 10 am at the United Church of Norwood, 595 Washington Street, Norwood followed by interment in Highland Cemetery, Winter Street, Norwood.
