Lynne Marie (O’Berry) Cabot, age 72, known as Terry to her friends, died on
October 23, 2011, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her
sons, Chilton Lyons “Toby” Cabot, and his wife, Victoria Thaler Cabot,
of Dedham and Christopher Shepard Cabot and his wife, Brooke Wight
Cabot, also of Dedham: her six grandchildren, Jackson, Victoria, Camilla,
Katharine, Mimi and Georgia; and several cousins. She was predeceased
by her former husband, Chilton Shepard “Tony” Cabot, in 2011.
Terry was born in Tampa, Florida, the daughter of Emma Marie Lyons and
Karlyle O’Berry. She grew up in Dayton, Ohio and Los Angeles,
California. She graduated from Marymount High School in Los Angeles
in 1956. She matriculated at Vassar College and attended Vassar for
two years. While at Vassar she was a member of the 1958 Daisy Chain.
She transferred to Stanford University and received a BA degree in
English in 1960. In 1960 she enrolled in Harvard Business School as
one of four women in her class. She received her MBA degree in 1962.
While her children were young, Terry dedicated herself to
volunteerism. She was a member of the Junior League of Boston and The
Vincent Club. While a member of the Junior League, she chaired the
1974 Decorators’ Show House and served in a variety of offices
including First Vice President. Terry was also an active Vassar
alumnae, serving as Class President, Reunion Chair and Fund Raising
Chair for the Class of 1960. She served a five year term as Secretary
and board member of the Associated Alumnae and Alumni of Vassar
College.
Terry had a twenty-five year career in the financial services
industry, including nine years operating her own company, Cabot
Capital Management Co.
She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Dedham,
serving two terms on the Vestry including one as Clerk. She was a Lay
Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Flower Guild. In 2001 she
served on the Nominating Committee for the Bishop-Suffragan of the
Diocese of Massachusetts.
Terry enjoyed sports including skiing and tennis. However, the real
joy in her life were her grandchildren, who called her Grammy. She spent many
happy hours cheering for them at their soccer, lacrosse, field hockey,
squash, and basketball games.
She was a woman of strong character who was adored by her family and
friends.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at St. Paul’s
Episcopal Church, 59 Court Street, Dedham MA on October 29, 2011 at 11 AM..
Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The
Vincent Memorial Hospital, c/o The Vincent Club, 77 Brimmer St.,
Boston, MA 02108.
