Joseph S. Ross

Joseph S. Ross of Norwood passed away on February 23, 2012 at the age of 91.  He was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada to the late William and Christine (MacLeod) Ross.  Joseph came to the U.S. as a young boy.  He graduated from Norwood High School. He then served in the U.S. Army during WWII, spending time in North Africa, Corsica and Italy.  Joseph retired in 2004 at the age 85 from the Department of Welfare in Boston where he worked for 27 years.  He received the “Department of Welfare Compassion  Award” and “The Manuel Carballo Award for Excellence in Public Service.”   Mr. Ross is survived by his sister Tena Penney of South Carolina and his brother Wilfred of Nova Scotia as well as many nieces and nephews.   He was predeceased by 7 brothers and 2 sisters.  Visiting hours will be held on Sunday,  February 26, 2012 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at the May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols St., Norwood.  Funeral services and burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
