Joseph Richard Deegan, a resident of Westwood since 1973, died Sunday, February 15th, 2009 at his home in Westwood. He was 79. Joe was born July 25, 1929 in Holden, West Virginia, a son of the late Jack Andrew and Mary (Stefanik) Deegan. After high school he enlisted in the US Navy and served on the USS Putnam and the USS Winston during the Korean war. Joe went to trade school and became an electrician, first working as a union electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrican Workers, Local 103 in Boston, and later for Polaroid Corporation where he worked for 15 years until his retirement in 1988. He was also a member of the Norwood Knights of Columbus. Joe was the husband of the late Dorothy P. (Garrity) Deegan. He is survived by his two daughters, Deborah Deegan of Westwood, and Patricia Reise, and her husband Craig, of Norwood; his sister, Betty Petersen of Florida; and his two brothers, Edward Deegan, and his wife Ruth, of Wisconsin, and Thomas Deegan, and his wife Joyce, of Florida. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, Feb 18th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, WESTWOOD. Relatives and friends will gather at the Funeral Home, Thursday at 8:45 AM and proceed to Imacculate Conception Church, 122 Canton Street, Stoughton for his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o clock. Burial with miliary honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury. Donations in his memory to Poor Clare Nuns, Monastary of St. Clare, 920 Centre Street, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 would be appreciated.
