Joseph Frank Bayer, Sr.,  a resident of Norwood, died Wedneday, December 30, 2015 at the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood.  He was 98.  Joseph was born November 18, 1917 in Queens, New York, the only child of Joseph and Josephine (Ausobsky) Bayer, immigrants from Czechoslovakia.  Joseph enlisted in the US Army and served for four years during World War Two.  After the war, Joseph resumed his banking career and rose to the position of bank president.  He was a member of the American Banker’s Association, the Norwood Retired Men’s Club, Orient Lodge AF & AM of Norwood, and Temple Commandery #48 of the Knight Templar. Joseph was the husband of the late Grace Edith (Meyenberg) who predeceased him in 1989.  He is survived by his daughter, Virginia A. Heim, and her husband Jeff, of Mesa, Arizona; his three sons, Joseph F. Jr., and his wife Donna, of Lawrenceburg, Indianna, Richard H. Bayer, and his wife Dana, of Newark, Delaware, and Thomas A. Bayer, of Norwood; as well as eight grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.  Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, January 5th from 4 to 8 PM at the May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols Street, Norwood.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Wednesday at 11 AM at Grace Episcopal Church, 150 Chapel St., Norwood followed by burial with military honors at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Grace Episcopal Church (address above) would be appreciated.
