John Forbes Davenport Jr., a lifelong resident of Dedham, died Monday, December 26, 2016 at the Tower Hill Nursing Home in Canton. He was 86. John was born January 7, 1930 in Dedham, Massachusetts, the son of John Forbes Sr., and Florence (Leavitt) Davenport. He graduated from Dedham High School and went on to own and operate Davenport Texaco and Davenport Shell gas stations until his retirement in 1994. John was an avid sports fan who had season’s tickets to the Bruins, and he also served as an usher at St. Anne’s Church in Readville. He was the husband of the late Eileen A. (Schneider) Davenport and is survived by his son, John F. Davenport III of Boston; his daughters, Kathleen M. Davenport of Raynham, and Denise A. Davenport of Vero Beach, Florida; his sister, Marilyn O’Brien of Dedham; three grandchildren, Rachelle Davenport, Hannah Davenport, and Jenna Hodgman; and a great grandchild, Logan Delyanis. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, Dec 29th from 4 to 7 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham. Relatives and friends are invite to gather at the funeral home on Friday, Dec 30th starting at 11 am and proceed with the family to St. Anne’s Church, 82 West Milton Street, Readville for John’s Mass of Christian Burial at noon. Interment will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park inn Canton. Donations in John’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated.
