Jean Beatrice (Thomson) Salander, a longtime resident of West Roxbury, died Thursday, October 13, 2011 at her home in West Roxbury.  She was 80.  Jean was born July 25, 1931 in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of Edward W. and Florence (Bigelow) Thomson.  She graduated from Roslindale High School  and attended Westbrook Junior College in Westbrook, Maine for a year. Jean first worked for the John Hancock Insurance Company and the Dedham Transcript Newspaper but spent most of her career working as an assistant comptroller for the Town of Dedham.  She retired in 1993 after spending 17 years of service to the Town.  Jean enjoyed knitting, playing the piano, skiing, reading, ice skating and roller skating. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, and was a member of the Bridge Club and the Girls Club.  Jean loved animals and will be missed by her current canine, Buddy.   Jean  is survived by her husband, Robert H. Salander; her two daughters, Susan Jean Salander of Lancaster, Massachusetts, and Linda Jean Mastroianni of Cary, North Carolina; and her two grandchildren, Alexander J. and Sarah A. Mastroianni.  She was the sister of the late James Thomson.  Visiting hours will be held Sunday, October 16th from 4 to 7 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham.  Jean’s funeral will be held Monday, October 17th at 1 PM at the funeral home followed by burial in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.  Donations in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, Massachusetts 01701 would be appreciated.
