Indra Judite (Klavins) Platais, a longtime resident of West Roxbury died Monday, July 6, 2020 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She was 86.  Indra was born December 7, 1933 in Talsi, Latvia, a daughter of August and Laura (Mazulis) Platais.  Her family moved to Sweden during World War Two and then emigrated to Canada before eventually moving to the Boston area in the early 1950’s.  Indra worked for Golden Cookie Company prior to working as a phlebotomist and finally as a laboratory technician for the Harvard School of Public Health.  She was a founding member of the Latvian Baptist Church of Boston where she still serves as the financial secretary, and a member of the Stratford Street United Church in West Roxbury.  Indra was an avid reader and knitter and a member of the Chelmsford Art Society where she won awards for her drawings and acrylic paintings.  She also enjoyed the time spent at the cottage she and her husband built in North Whitefield, Maine on the Sheepscott River.  Indra was the wife of the late Andrew Talavs Platais who predeceased her in 2013, and the sister of the late Andrew Klavins.  She is survived by her son Edgar A. Platais, with Lynn Bailey, of Stoughton; her daughter Roberta Platais-Witts, and her husband Paul, of Chelmsford; her granddaughter, Diena Laura Witts of Chelmsford; her sister, Dzidra Bergs of Port Perry, Ontario, Canada; and her two brothers, Gunis Klavins of West Roxbury, and Ivars Klavins of Wakefield.  Visiting hours will be held Friday, July 10th from 2 to 3 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale followed by a private funeral service in the funeral home (due to space and seating considerations for covid regulations) at 3 pm. Interment will be private at the Gardens at Gethsemane Cemetery in West Roxbury.  In lieu of flowers charitable donations in her name to the Latvian Baptist Church, c/o Juris Alksnitis, 10 Rocky Brook Road, Dover, MA 02030 for youth ministry to special needs children and victims of Covid-19 in Latvia, or to the American Cancer Society, 3 Speen Street, Suite 205, Framingham, MA 01701 would be appreciated.
