John W. Hibbard, a longtime resident of Dedham, died on Sept. 1 with his family by his side. He was 92. Born in Dedham, he was the son of the late Albert D. and Clara F. (Nudd). A graduate of Dedham High School and Bates College in Maine. Mr. Hibbard was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army. He was employed as a claims adjuster for property and accidental insurance, working at Norfolk & Dedham Insurance Company. He was the former president of the Roxbury Highland Cooperative Bank, an active member of the Allin Congregational Church and served on the Conservation Committee of Dedham and was a Mason with the Constellation Lodge AF & AM of Dedham (now Celestial Lodge of Westwood). Gardening was one of his passions and he always liked to tend the garden at the Endicott Estate every year. He enjoyed spending the winter season on the family farm in Vermont. His greatest joy was his family. Married to the late Ruth H. (Buchanan) for 66 years, together they raised their 5 children, Sally Mols of Nevada, Betsy Dyke of ME, Nancy Stuart and Peter Hibbard of Dedham and Susan Campbell of Auburn. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 25th at 11:00AM at the Allin Congregational Church (address below). Donations in Mr. Hibbard’s memory may be sent to the Allin Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 683 High St., Dedham, MA 02026.
