Fridel Gretel (Mann) Byrnes, a resident of Westwood, and formerly of Hyde Park, died Sunday, December 15, 2024 at her son’s home in Walpole. She was 89. Fridel was born June 29, 1935 in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, the daughter of Franz Friedrick and Frida (Ruthe) Mann. She worked as a Governess and a children’s nurse at Children’s Hospital in Germany. After immigrating to the United States she worked at the cafeterias in the Westwood Middle and High Schools for 10 years. She enjoyed gardening and travel. Fridel was the wife of the late Bernard Arthur Byrnes who predeceased her in 2020, and the sister of the late Harro Mann. She is survived by her two sons, Eric H. Byrnes, and his wife Dalila, of Walpole, and Paul O. Byrnes, and his wife Mary Beth, of Walpole; and her two grandchildren, Emily DeAndrade, and her husband Lucas, and Joseph Byrnes, and his wife Rachel. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 18th, 2024 from 9 to 10 am at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood followed by her funeral at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 24 Berwick Street, Norwood at 10:30. Interment in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. In lieu of flowers donations to the Fisher House, 1400 VFW Parkway, West Roxbury, MA 02132 or to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 24 Berwick Street, Norwood, MA 02026 would be appreciated.
