Fred Ward Dietzel, Jr., a longtime resident of Dedham, died Thursday, July 22, 2021 at his home in Dedham. He was 66. Fred was born July 4, 1955 in Hindenburg, Germany, where his father was stationed during the Korean War, a son of Fred Ward Sr., and Ruth Dietzel McLeish. He attended Wentworth University, and worked as a carpenter working frequently at Tex’s BBQ Express. He was a member of the Dedham Moose Club where he participated in the dart league, a member of the American Legion Post of Dedham where he served on the Color Guard and played in the horseshoes league, a member of the Medfield Fish & Game Club, and he played men’s softball in Dedham for 25 years. Fred loved boating on the Charles River, and was an avid fan of all Boston Sports. He is survived by his wife, Donna M. (Clancy) Dietzel, his two daughters, Kathryn Lee Dietzel, and her partner Harry Arroyo, of Dedham, and Meghan Marjorie Freitas, and her husband Mauro, of Norwood; his brother Mark Dietzel of Dedham; his two sisters, Donna Jackson and Lauren Davenport, both of Millis; his six grandchildren, Maddison and Haley Benatuil, and Ethan, Wesley, Cecilia, and Aria Freitas; and his in-laws, Cathy and Thomas Milani of Bellingham, Linda Clancy of Milford, Erin Clancy of Dedham, and Christine Redmond and Kyle Hadley of Mapleville, Rhode Island; as well as many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, July 25th from 4 to 7 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service Monday, July 26th at 11 am at the Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
