Elizabeth Ann Burzyk

Elizabeth Ann (Grandfield) Burzyk “Betty” passed away at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Needham on April 12, 2025 surrounded by her loving family, after a brief illness. She was 99.

Betty grew up in Roslindale the youngest of eight children. Her parents were the late Robert Edward Grandfield and Julia (Merrick) Grandfield. She was predeceased by her siblings.

She was the wife of the late Alfred Burzyk. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Burzyk {Dennis Murphy}; by her son, David Burzyk, and his wife Sharon; as well as three grandchildren, Michael (his fiancée Julie Casella), Nichole, Jennifer; great grandchild, Logan Burzyk;, and numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Betty received her B.A. in English from Emmanuel College in Boston and her Master in Education from Boston Teachers College. She became a teacher, starting her career in Quincy, and then moving to Boston Public schools. She loved her students and loved teaching.

Betty was a voracious reader, sometimes reading 5 books a week. She loved to take classes at the Norwood Senior Center especially the yoga and watercolor classes. She loved the ocean…whether spending time at Scituate, the Cape or Wells Beach.

Betty looked forward to the opening day at her apartment’s outdoor pool and was the first one there most days. She loved the Patriots and never missed watching a game. She always seemed to know whether they would win. After retirement, she was a member of the Joy Walkers group in Boston. At least twice a week, they circumnavigated Jamaica Pond, the Arboretum or Castle Island.

There will be no visiting hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Mass on Friday, April 25th at 11 am at St. Catherine of Siena in Norwood, followed by interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury.
