Elaine May Smith, a resident of Foxboro for 8 years, formerly of Dedham for 60 years, and also formerly of Norwood, died Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Epoch Nursing Home in Norton. She was 86. Elaine was known to all her family and friends as “Nana”. She was born May 15, 1926 in Boston, Massachusetts, one of the eight children of Axel R. and Annie (Johnson) Anderson. Elaine graduated from Dedham High School with the Class of 1945 and married Louis V. Smith in 1946. She was predeceased by her husband and her son, L. Earl Smith; her six sisters, Annie Anderson, Louise Anderson, Evelyn Anderson, Beatrice Harrington, Laura Law and Edith Mayhair; and one brother, Albert Anderson. “Nana” is survived by her daughter Holly A. Randall, and her husband Peter, of Foxboro; and her daughters-in-law Barbara Smith of Attleboro, and Debra Lannan of Lawrence. She is also survived by her grandchildren Eric P. Randall, Amy E. Randall, Courtney E. Smith and Riley C. Smith; and many nieces and nephews. Elaine was a member of Contentment Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and belonged to the Dedham DeMolay Mothers Club. She was an avid reader, knitter, and she enjoyed baking her much sought after apple pie. “Nana”, however, was happiest spending time with her grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her graveside service Saturday, August 25, 2012, at 11 am at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
