Edward Archibald Searles, a 52 year resident of Dedham, formerly of Cambridge, died Wednesday June 9, 2010 at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center. He was 87. Edward was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, the son of the late Joseph A. and Jennie J. (Richards) Searles. In 1942 Mr. Searles joined the United States Army, serving during World War II, receiving a number of medals for his service including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Ed was a charter member of the Jacob Jones VFW Post 2017 in Dedham, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Club. He was a Hoisting Operating Engineer, a retired member of the IUOE Local #4 with over 50 years of service, and worked on many prominent projects in Boston including the Prudential , John Hancock, 60 State Street and the Christian Science Center. He was predeceased by his wife, the love of his life for 65 years, Margaret Rose (Ray) Searles. Ed is survived by his daughter Sandra A. Brewer and her husband Lawrence E. of Dedham; his grandchildren, Christine E. and her husband Bruce Trundley of Dedham, Jennifer and her husband Mark Gjika, Charles and his wife Joelle Murphy and Chad and his wife Julie Brewer;, his great grandchildren, (who lovingly called him “Arby”), Charles, Hannah, Eva Rose Murphy, Jennie and Bruce Trundley. He is also survived by his brother Irving Searles, his sister Edna Cotter, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Elbert Searles, George Searles, Emily Healy, Ellen Johnson and Irene Lecuyer. Visiting hours will be held Sunday June 13, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St., Dedham. Funeral Monday June 14th at 9:30 am from the funeral home followed by his Mass of Christian burial which will be celebrated at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Church, 420 High St. Dedham. Burial at The Gardens at Gethsemane Cemetery, Baker Street, West Roxbury. Flowers are appreciated or donations may be made in Mr. Searles memory to Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929
