Dorothy Marie (Holmgren) Sanden, a resident of Roslindale for 60 years, died Sunday, August 4, 2013 at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. She was 88. Dorothy was born December 15, 1924 in Dorchester, Massachusetts, the only child of Thure and Hildur (Anderson) Holmgren, immigrants from Sweden. In the 1960’s she worked as a seamstress for Superior Knitting and then spent 15 years as the Secretary to Chaplain Woodson at the Boston State Hospital until her retirement in 1981. Dorothy was a member of the Viking Club in Quincy, a member of the Stratford Street Baptist Church in West Roxbury, and was last year’s president of the Stratford Ladies Club at the church. Dorothy was the wife of the late Boston Patrolman Spaulding H. Sanden, who predeceased her in 1984. She is survived by her son, Wayne S. Sanden of Roslindale; her daughter, Gail C. Sanden-Barter of Roslindale; her grandchildren, Christopher Sanden and Jennifer Fernandez; and her great grandchildren, Isabella and Alexander Fernandez. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 11 AM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale. Visitation with Dorothy’s family will be held for an hour prior to her funeral. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Dorothy’s memory to the Stratford Street United Church, 77 Stratford Street, West Roxbury, Massachusetts, 02132 would be appreciated.
