Charlotte B. Taylor

Charlotte Taylor, an enduring fount of kindness and love, passed peacefully in the presence of family on Tuesday, April 21, 2015. She was 94.

A prolific artist and knitter, whose paintings, afghans and hats are cherished by those she leaves behind, Mrs. Taylor was long-regarded as among the best chocolate-chip cookie bakers ever to reside in greater Boston. But there is something more permanent her family treasures most – her spirit of shining joy, selflessness and pride that inspired nearly all she met in this world.

“She was good to everybody. She had that simplicity that a lot of us are looking for and it’s hard to imagine the world without her,” said Mrs. Taylor’s sister Marjorie Herrett Park.

Born Charlotte “Blanche” Herrett in 1920, Mrs. Taylor took her name on marriage to Charles E. Taylor in 1942. He was a baseball player. She was beautiful and worked in a bakery. They started a family in Dorchester and later moved to Westwood, where she lived for 57 years.

Her greatest joy was family. She laughed loud and often. And loved sharing the experiences of her long life — from her stardom on roller-skates as a girl, to the baking job she took to help support her younger siblings as teen during the Depression, to her work in a World War II helmet factory, to the nearly 30-years she spent with Woolworths.

Predeceased by her husband in 1989, Mrs. Taylor was a devout member of the Islington Community Church. She volunteered for the Red Cross. She knitted afghans for Vets. She took tremendous pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was the oldest of four sisters and a brother.  She is survived by her youngest sister, Mrs. Herrett Park of California; her sons Charlie Taylor of Virginia and Ron Taylor of New York; her grandchildren, Greg, Kris, Mark, Melanie and Guy; their spouses and her 10 great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, April 25th from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Saturday at 1 pm at the First Baptist Church, 808 High Street, Westwood followed by interment in New Westwood Cemetery.
