Catherine Elizabeth (Cheever) Litchfield, a resident of Dedham for 66 years, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Needham after a brief illness. She was 86. Kay was born March 27, 1928 in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Madden) Cheever. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services from New Hampshire College and spent much of her career tutoring prisoners and veterans. She also loved reading, music, and participating in musical shows with the Dedham Troubadors. Kay was the wife of the late George Albert Litchfield, who predeceased her in 1986. She was also a Gold Star Mother, having lost her son, First Lieutenant Frank E. Litchfield, in the Vietnam war. She is survived by her son, George A. Litchfield, Jr.; her four daughters, Catherine DeNorscia, Lauren Gonsalves, Marie Thompson, and Elizabeth Labrie; her brother, Edward Cheever; her five sisters, Marion Gillis, Johanna McCafferty, Blanche Scott, Dorothy Fagan, and Mary Kearns; as well as 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held Saturday, Oct 25th from 10 am to 1 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham. Services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations to the Senior Center Gift Account, c/o the Deham Council on Aging, 735 Washington St, Suite 166, Dedham, MA 02026 would be appreciated.
