Carolyn M. (Cook) Levitre, a resident of Norwood, died Friday, December 28, 2012 at the Harrington House in Walpole. She was 88. Born in Needham, the daughter of Robert H. and Louise May (Tierney) Cook, she grew up in Norwood and was a graduate of Norwood High School, Class of 1942. Mrs. Levitre worked for the American Steel & Aluminum Co. in Norwood as a bookkeeper while raising her children. A former member of St. Catherine’s Church, she was Prefect of St. Catherine’s Ladies Solidality, den mother of St. Catherine’s Cub Scouts, Pack 49 and a member and past secretary of the Norwood Women’s Club. She enjoyed playing bingo, liked needlepoint, crocheting and listening to music. She was an avid reader and a gourmet chef. Her family describes her as having a wonderful sense of humor and was the Patron Saint of Shopping! She was a devoted mother and her grandchildren were her greatest joy. Mrs. Levitre was married to the late Leo Eli Levitre. They raised 2 children. She is survived by her son Robert A. LeVitre and his companion Susan R. Spencer of Norton and daughter Anne M. LeVitre-Brawley and her husband Henry A. of Quincy; her grandchildren Nicole L. Gavaletz, Katherine E. LeVitre, Melanie L. and Natalie J. Dolan, Kristina T., Alex, Samantha F. and Sydney E. Brawley and her great grandchildren Carolyn Judith and Marguerite May Gavaletz and James F. Maloney. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 11AM at the May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols St., Norwood. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Norwood. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, December 30, 2012 from 4 to 7PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Jimmy Fund, c/o Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place, West, 6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445 would be greatly appreciated.
