Caroline (Robertson) Gray, a resident of Westwood, MA, and formerly of Grosse Pointe, MI, died Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA, after a brief illness. She was 92. Carol was born November 4, 1932, in Springfield, OH, youngest of the four children of Merlin Gladstone and Elenore Glover (Wachs) Robertson. She graduated from Kingswood School (now Cranbrook Schools) in Bloomfield Hills, MI, with the class of 1950; earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Connecticut College, New London, CT, in 1954; and received her master’s degree in art history in 1974 from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI.

Carol was an avid weaver who owned her own looms and enjoyed quilting and other fabric arts. She studied ceramics at the Society of Arts and Crafts in Detroit, MI, and taught art history at Wayne State University. She was also a voracious reader who possessed an unusually keen intellect, and was especially well versed in art, architecture, and history. Fluent in French, she and her late husband Cliff maintained an apartment in Lyon, France, which they used as a base for travels around the world for over 25 years. Carol was very devoted to her dogs, with a strong fondness for German Shepherds.

Carol was the wife of the late Cliff Fell Gray, Jr., and the former wife of Leet Edward Denton, II. She is survived by five children: Caroline "Carrie" Crowley Davis of Patchogue, NY; Leet "Trip" Edward Denton, III, of Philadelphia, PA; Dana Denton Edelman of Philadelphia, PA; Hillary Denton Kohler (David) of Westwood, MA; and Cameron Brown Denton (Meara Quinn) of Baltimore, MD. She was predeceased by her daughter Heidi Joan Denton (Scott Kauffman) of Sparks, MD, and son Kelsey Reed Denton. Carol was stepmother to Martha Lane Gray (Julius Pereli) of Arlington, MA; Elizabeth Gray Balaguer (Eugene) of Austin, TX; Caroline Gray Guenette (Francis) of Chicago, IL; Cliff Fell Gray, III, of Chicago, IL; and the late Rebecca Levick Gray. She was the sister of Reed Robertson (Marion), the late David Bruce Robertson, and the late Joan Wissinger Duddingston. Carol is survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to College of Creative Studies (201 East Kirby Street, Detroit, Michigan, 48202) are appreciated.
