Betty L. Mazzola

Betty L. (Nelson) Mazzola a resident of Westwood, passed away June 17th at the Stanley Tippett House in Needham.  She was 79.   Betty was born January 11, 1930 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the daughter of Francis and Cora (Thomas) Nelson,.  She grew up in Lexington, and graduated from Lexington High School.  After high school, Betty attended Framingham State, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree.  After college, Betty moved to Dedham and found a job at the Noble and Greenough School working as an administrative assistant.  She met and married N. Joseph Mazzola, and the couple had three children:  Steven, Jeanne and Nancy.  The couple later moved to Westwood where Betty became a devoted member of the Church of St. Denis.  She was a longtime member of the Dedham Choral Society, and active in prayer groups, church retreats, and often attended spiritual education classes.  In her spare time, Betty enjoyed the theater and attending concerts.  Betty is predeceased by her husband, N. Joseph Mazzola.  She is survived by her children:  Steven and his wife Lois of Dedham, Jeanne and her husband Gary McEachern of Scituate, and Nancy and her husband Tom Looney of Westwood.  She is also survived by her grandchildren; Brian and Katherine McEachern, Lauren, Andrew and Ryan Mazzola, and James and Kevin Looney.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 20th at 10:30 AM at the Church of St. Denis, 157 Washington Street, Westwood.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Stanley Tippett House, 920 South Street, Needham, MA 02492, or the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 would be appreciated.
