Barbara Ann (Driscoll) McComb died on Saturday, May 31,2014 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston of complications due to an underlying Pulmonary condition.
A lifelong resident of Dedham, she was born in her family home to Kenneth and Ethel Driscoll and had 6 siblings. Faye Meighan, sister, of Dedham. Predeceased by Kenneth, Doris, Florence, Marjorie, David. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was the beloved mother of Leann Tibets of Dedham, Dear Nana of Stephanie and Meghan, and the dearest Great Grandma of Fiona. Barbara was the wife of the late Harry McComb for 18 years.
Barbara was a truly remarkable woman who worked very hard her whole life. She was an assembly worker for 25 years at Allis Chalmers Corporation, leaving school during World War II to support the war efforts. She then worked as a domestic for many years, independently, until her retirement. She enjoyed her family, summers in Mashpee, cooking, crocheting, and crafting. She loved music and dancing, attending many summer concerts at local venues. She leaves a gift to her family of what a good work ethic can accomplish in life and living the American dream. She advocated that if you are willing to work in this life, there is nothing that you cannot achieve or have.
Growing up in the Manor section of Dedham, she had many fond memories of childhood years when life was a lot simpler.
Barbara is with the angels now, at rest peacefully. May God take her home to her eternal resting place.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 10AM at the Allin Congregational Church, 683 High St., Dedham. Interment in Brookdale Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday, June 6, 2014 from 4 to 8PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the MSPCA (also Angell Memorial Animal Hospital), 350 So.
