Barbara Anne (Barnard) Hayes, a resident of Westwood for over 60 years, died Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Countryside Healthcare of Milford. She was 85. Barbara was born September 26, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts, a daughter of Edward L. and Elfie O. (Gray) Barnard. She grew up in Jamaica Plain and graduated from Girls Latin School, and from Chandler Secretarial School. Barbara worked as a secretary for several doctors at the Faulkner Hospital and then worked for 29 years as a tutor at the Martha Jones School and the Thurston Junior High School in Westwood. She was a member of the Westwood Retired Teachers Association, the Westwood Women’s Club, the Westwood Garden Club and the Westwood Historical Society. Barbara also volunteered for many years at Glad Rags in Westwood. She was the wife of the late Donald L. Hayes who predeceased her in 2001, and is survived by her daughter, Wendy L. Jenkins, and her husband Gordon, of Franklin; her son, Scott D. Hayes, and his wife Monique, of Naples, Maine; her sister, Martha Poole, and her husband Douglas, of Kennebunk, Maine; her six grandchildren, Brett, Travis and Eric Jenkins, Derek and Brittany Hayes, and Sarah Ficco; and her two great grandchildren, Aaron Ficco and Myles Jenkins. Private interment was in New Westwood Cemetery. A Service of Celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11 am at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High St., Westwood. In lieu of flowers donations to the Animal Rescue League, 55 Anna’s Place, Dedham, MA 02026 or to the MA Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (MSPCC), 3815 Washington St, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 would be appreciated.
