Arlene Norma (Ward) Upshall, a resident of Dedham for 65 years, died Sunday, September 19, 2010 at the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood. She was 86. Arlene was born May 5th, 1924 in Boston, Massachusetts, a daughter of Thomas and Matilda (Piesendel) Ward. She grew up in Roslindale, graduated from Roslindale High School, and attended the Boston Secretarial School. Arlene was the wife of the late Henry Kirby Upshall and the sister of the late Audrey Wells. Arlene is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Cunningham, and her husband Bruce, of Dedham, Carol Hanlon, and her husband Joseph, of Rockland, and Linda McElhinney, and her husband Robert, of Dedham; her eight grandchildren, Amy Davis, Kevin Hanlon, Anna Roaf, David and Thomas Cunningham, and Robert, Erin and Sean McElhinney; as well as eleven great grandchildren. Arlene was a very social woman with a large circle of friends. She was an active member of the Church of the Good Shepherd and a volunteer for FISH of Dedham, and a member of the Dedham Senior Citizens. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, summering on the Cape and walking. Visiting hours will be held Friday, September 24th from 5 to 8 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Saturday at 10 AM at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 62 Cedar Street, Dedham, MA 02026. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations to the Church of the Good Shepherd (address above), or to the Jimmy Fund, c/o the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, Ma 02445 would be appreciated.
