Arlene E. Lindblom

d. January 6, 2023

Arlene E.  “Swede” (Hanson) Lindblom, wife of the late J. Herbert, passed on peacefully in her home on Thursday, January 6th surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.  She is survived by her daughter Edith Lindblom-Warthin of Derby, VT; her son William H. and his wife Susan of Long Branch, NJ and her daughter Lois L. Johnson and her husband Herb of Walpole, MA.  She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters, and her longtime friend Rita Lyons of Norwood.  Ever respected matriarch, Arlene took great pride in her entire family.

Born in 1913, Arlene graduated Bridgewater High School in 1930.  A member of the first graduating class of Sargent School of Physical Education at Boston University, she earned her B.S. in Education in 1934.  She taught in Acton, Norwood, Walpole and Medfield until she retired in 1988.

Arlene co-founded the Women’s Community Committee in Norwood.  She was a board member of the traditional Norwood Girl Scout Council.  Arlene was also active in Boy Scouts.  She also was a life member of Samoset Chapter 109 of the Order of Eastern Star of MA.  For many years, she enjoyed being part of the voting process in Norwood.

Swede loved antiques, crossword puzzles, traveling, bird watching and listening to country music.  Sports were her main interest in life, and her passion  for the Red Sox never waned.  She attributed her longevity to her Native American heritage from the Wampanoag tribe.

A private service will be held per her request.  Donations may be made in her name to the Girl Scouts of  Eastern MA, 95 Berkeley St., Boston, MA 02116 (c/of Service Unit in Norwood) or Caritas Home Care, 3 Edgewater Dr., Norwood, MA 02062.
