Alexander Richard Ferzoco, “Richy”, age 87. Lifelong resident of Readville, peacefully passed away on September 28, 2016. Born on December 14, 1928 to the late Alessandro and Agata (Tiberi) Ferzoco. He attended St. Anne School, was a graduate of Hyde Park School, then attended Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. Served 4 years of active duty in the United States Coast Guard in the early 1950’s.
In 1954, Richy became the sole proprietor of the Hyde Park Pharmacy. “In Business for your Health” was his motto and he brought the pharmaceutical industry to a whole new level. He dedicated his life to serving the people of the community. He turned the “corner drugstore” into a local landmark. It was his passion to share a cup of coffee, a story, fill your prescription, and without even knowing , making your day better. Richy operated the pharmacy for 58 years before his retirement in 2012.
Richy was an avid golfer and shared the course with a group of very special friends. He was a sponsor to numerous local charities and church events. He was a member of the Polish Club, Bocce Club, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Hyde Park Cooperative Bank.
Richy was married to his beloved wife, the late Mary Rose (Carbone) for 45 years. He leaves behind four daughters and caretakers; Myra Ferzoco-deMello and the late Emanuel, Paula Ferzoco-Roy, Patricia Hickey and her husband Jack, all of Readville and Lisa Walsh and her husband Paul of Walpole. He also leaves his six cherished grandchildren; Michael deMello and his wife Kim of Natick, Mark deMello and his wife Marie of Readville, Jesse deMello of Readville, Ryan and Melissa Walsh of Walpole and Nathan Roy of Weymouth. He was “Uncle Richy” to many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was a friend to all who knew him.
Richy was predeceased by his siblings; Pasquale, Cesira, William, Sr. Agnes Richard, Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Anthony, Albert and David.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 2-8PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St., Dedham. His funeral will be on Monday, October 3, 2016 from the funeral home at 9AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 0’clock at St. Anne’s Church, 82 W. Milton St., Readville, MA. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Hyde Park.
