Carchia, Dorothy E.
Dorothy Elizabeth “Lee” (Copeland) Carchia, a resident of Dedham, and formerly of Waltham, MA for many years, died Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood, MA. She was 98. Lee was born February 20, 1922 in Newton, Massachusetts, the last surviving of the four children of William Pittblade and Ida Emily (Silver) Copeland. She grew up in Newton and attended business school after high school. In her early years, Lee was a professional dancer who met her husband in a nightclub where he was playing clarinet in the band. Lee also worked for many years at Thermo Electron in Waltham, MA as the Production Manager of the Technical Typing Department. She collected and made porcelain dolls, enjoyed painting, drawing and woodworking, and bowled in a league in West Roxbury. Lee was the wife of the late Victor Robert “Bobby” Carchia, the mother of the late Janet Lee Carchia and the late Jonathan Copeland Carchia; sister of the late Ida Emily Fals, the late Eunice Mary LaRonde, and the late William Pittblade Copeland. She is survived by her nieces, Christine (Copeland) Olagundoye of Los Angeles, CA, Carolyn Elizabeth Thompson of Issaquah WA, and nephews, Carl William Copeland and Robert Morton Copeland, both of Bergen, Norway. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Linda Killian, as well as several cousins and great and great-great nieces and nephews. Private burial will be at Newton cemetery, Newton, MA. In lieu of flowers donations to the Animal Rescue League, 55 Anna’s Place, Dedham, MA 02026 would be appreciated.
