Blake, Ruth L.
Ruth Lillian Blake, a resiednt of West Roxbury, and Pompano Beach, Florida, and formerly of Oak Bluffs, died Friday, October 9th, 2009 at the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Westborough. She was 85. Ruth was born in Boston July 24, 1924, the daughter of the late Alfred E and Henrietta W. (Anderson) Johnson. She graduated from the first class of Roslindale High School in 1941. Ruth married Harry R. Blake Jr and, after WWII and the birth of their 2 children, they lived in Roslindale and West Roxbury until 1973 when they moved to Pompano Beach, Florida. During her winters in Florida the B.P.O.E, Women’s Auxiliary of Does kept her very busy with many service projects for the community. She also enjoyed the time spent with visits from friends and family. Mrs. Blake was employed with the Metropolitan District Commission for almost ten years. She sang for the West Roxbury Congregational Church Choir for many years. Later in her life she lived in Oak Bluffs on their boat and worked at Our Market for 20 years. More recently Mrs. Blake lived in Marlboro at New Horizons Assisted Living and enjoyed her new friends and her life there. She is survived by her children Elizabeth R. ” Betty”, and her husband Donald Call, of Stow, and Robert H., and his wife Nancy Blake, of Dennisport & Pompano Beach, FL; her brother William E. Johnson of Cotuit; her grandchildren Kristen Barnes of E. Brookfield, Susan Bell of S. Jordan, UT, Richard Blake of No. Attleboro, and Jill Crisafi of Wrentham. She is also survived by ten great grandchildren. Ruth was the sister of the late Dorothy E. Mueller. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 11 am at Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Ave, Roslindale. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 5-8 pm. In lieu of flowers donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
Nanna, You were an amazing person. Someone I will never forget. An awesome influence in my life! I don’t know what I will do without you!
