Hennessey, Michael J.
Michael Joseph Hennessey, a longtime resident of Hyde Park, died Monday, February 17, 2020 at his home in Hyde Park. He was 69. Michael was born April 14, 1950 in Boston, Massachusetts, one of the three sons of James Jerome and Dorothy Margaret (Kenney) Hennessey. He graduated from the Boston Police Academy and worked in the Boston gang unit, the Youth Violence Strike Force and was involved in the 10 point coalition before retiring as the Assistant Chief of the Boston School Police. Michael also enjoyed travel, especially to the Dominican Republic, and was a civil war buff. He is survived by his son, Michael J. Hennessey II of Hyde Park; his grandson, Michael J. Hennessey III; and his brother, Daniel Hennessey of Denver, Colorado. He was the brother of the late Jerry Hennessey. Visiting hours will be held Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 10 am till noon at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham followed by his funeral mass in St. Pius X Church, 101 Wolcott St, Milton at 12:30 pm. Interment will be private.
Although I have not seen Mike Hennessey for several years, I have fond memories of him at English High School, where I taught. He exemplified what a person and a police officer ought to be and was respected by students, including some whom he had to reprimand, and faculty alike.He will be sorely missed. Myles Striar
