Carole Jeanne (Adams) Colwell, a longtime resident of Westwood, died Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Massachusetts. She was 84. Carole was born November 5, 1934 in Portland, Maine, the daughter of Vernon Tarbox and Hazel Ethel (Coleman) Adams. She graduated from Needham High School with the Class of 1952 and attended Chamberlain College. After the birth of her children she was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout den leader. She taught Sunday School at the Islington Community Church where she was a longtime member. When the Islington Church closed she became an active member of the First Baptist Church in Westwood. After raising her family, Carole worked for many years at Mitre Corp in Bedford. She was very proud of the contributions she made as a lead programmer in the development of the AWAC radar system used by the US military. Carole was active with many charities and in her down time enjoyed cooking, sewing, and boating at their home on Lake Winnipesauke where she spent every Summer since 1957. Carole is survived by her husband of 65 years, Calvin Wesley Colwell; her son, Scott W. Colwell, and his wife Julie, of Medfield; her daughter Laurie Colwell of Palm City, Florida; her four grandchildren, Jennifer Benson, Stephanie Diamond, Ryan Colwell, and Cameron Colwell; her great granddaughter, Quinn Colwell; her niece, Linda Stufflebean, and her nephew, Michael Sabo. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, October 9th from 4 to 8 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, (Route 109) Westwood. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service Thursday, October 10th at 11 am at the First Baptist Church, 808 High Street, Westwood. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations to the Lakes Region Conservation Trust, PO Box 766, Center Harbor, NH, 03226 would be appreciated.
