McCarthy, I. Joan (Slack)
Imelda Joan (Slack) McCarthy, a resident of Dedham for over 50 years, and formerly of Brooklyn, New York, died Tuesday, April 16th at her home in Dedham. She was 80. Joan was born May 15, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Charles J. and Irene Mary (Robinson) SlackĀ and her career started there as a real estate secretary. In the 1960’s she moved to Dedham and was a housekeeper for many years at the rectory at St. Mary’s Church in Dedham. She retired from the Registry of Deeds for Norfolk County after many years of service. Joan was the wife of the late Gerard “Gerry” Michael McCarthy, and the sister of the late Irene M. Cook. She is survived by her son, Andrew C. Bearisto, and his wife Trish, of Dedham, and their children, AndrewJ. Bearisto, and his wife Lindsay, of Plymouth, and Leandra Bearisto of Dedham; and her loving brother, Kevin Slack, and his wife Vanda, of Manhassett, New York. Joan is also survived by a daughter, , and two loving great grandchildren, Natalie Jeanne of Medfield, and Mason of Plymouth, as well as many nieces and nephews. Her family would like to acknowledge the caregivers and friends that donated so much of their time to caring for Joan over the years; Mrs. Roberta Lanoue of Dedham, and Mr. Philip Gallagher Jr. of Needham. Joan’s family also would like to thank Companion Referral Service of Needham, and VNA Care Network Hospice for their amazing caregivers and support. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, April 24th from 10 am to noon at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St., Dedham followed by interment in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
