MacKinnon, Garfield
John Garfield Mackinnon, a resident of Norwood, passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his loving family on Sunday, February 17, 2019. He was 93. Garfield was born February 26, 1925 in Clyde River, Prince Edward Island, Canada, one of the five children of Gordon and Lula Mae (Scot) MacKinnon. In 1954 He emigrated from Prince Edward Island to the United States. He worked for thirty years as a finish carpenter and foreman in the shop at the Christian Science Church in Boston. Garfield served as a Deacon at the Westwood Evangelical Church and currently attended the Heritage Baptist Church in Norwood where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed gardening, bowling, woodworking, and time spent in Florida. Garfield is survived by his wife Hilda; his four children, Doug, Sandra and her husband Warren, Larry, and David and his wife Debbie; his sister, Doris Williams, and Phyllis MacDonald; as well as four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Warren MacKinnon, and the late Thelma Singleton. Visitation with his family will be held for an hour prior to his funeral service (10 to 11 am) on Wednesday at the Folsom & May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols Street, Norwood. His funeral will be held at 11 am Wednesday, February 20th, 2019 at the funeral home with the Reverend Tom Krampert of the Heritage Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery, Norwood. In lieu of flowers donations to the Heritage Baptist Church, 615 Washington Street, Norwood, MA 02062 or to the Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901 would be appreciated.
