Bataitis, Gertrude
Gertrude Bataitis, a resident of Dedham since 1938, died Friday, August 28th, 2009 at her home in Dedham. She was 102. Gertrude was born April 14, 1907 in Norwood, Massachusetts , a daughter of Lithuanian immigrants Peter and Rose (Survilla) Bataitis. She graduated from Norwood High School and earned her Bachelors degree from Boston Teachers College. Gertrude was an elementary school teacher in the City of Boston for 44 years until her retirement in 1972. She was also one of the first teachers in the Head Start Program. Gertrude was the sister of the late John Bataitis, the late Peter Bates, and the late Ann Bataitis. She is survived by her sister-in-law Brenda Bates of Norwood, and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her graveside service Tuesday, September 8th at 11 AM at Highland Cemetery in Norwood.
It is never easy to say a final good-bye to a loved one but perhaps you can take some comfort knowing she was able to be at home and her long life attests to her loving care. May many happy memories sustain you during this time.
