Cowley, Douglas A.
Douglas Allan Cowley, of Barnstable, died November 7, 2018, with loving friends and family members at his side. Doug was the son of Doris and Charles Cowley, late of West Roxbury, where he grew up. He is survived by his brother, Curtis J. Cowley, and his sister-in-law, Lisa Wyman Cowley, of Wellesley, and his niece, Martha Elizabeth Cowley, of Chicago, as well as his long-time friend, Caroline McBurney Howard of Hyannis and his tuxedo cat, Webster. A long-time resident of Sherborn, Doug retired to Barnstable in 2007. Doug was a proud 1958 graduate of Boston Latin School and 1963 graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, after which he entered service in the U.S. Army. Twenty years of employment at John Hancock Life Insurance Co. in Boston followed, during which Doug rose from computer programmer to manage the Hand-Star project for the Group Life Division. After Hancock, he became Managing Director of Far East Marketing for Stratus Computer, traveling throughout Asia and Australia for many years while maintaining a second home in Singapore. Doug was an avid chef who loved to prepare gourmet meals for family and friends, a passionate audiophile, a voracious reader and book collector, and animal and bird lover, whose favorite pastime was arguing what might be termed his “alt-left” political views. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his graveside service on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at noon at The Gardens Cemetery, Baker Street, West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug’s memory to the Boston Latin School Assoc., 27 School St, Suite 300, Boston, MA 02108 would be appreciated.
