Lamb,John
John A. Lamb, a resident of Dedham, Massachusetts for the past forty years, died peacefully in his home on September 3rd. He was born in 1921 and raised in Utica, New York, the youngest of three children. During the Great Depression and after the death of his mother in 1932, he took up a series of jobs to help support his family. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in Work War II in the African and European theaters. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and moved to New York City.
For the next twenty years he worked in advertising, resigning as vice president of Young and Rubicam, a Madison Avenue advertising agency, in the mid-1960s. After leaving advertising, Lamb worked for Arthur D. Little, a management consulting firm based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Subsequently, he founded an investment bank in New York and spent the later years of his career consulting for small businesses. He retired in 1986.
During retirement, he devoted his energies to several causes; helping college graduates find employment, teaching literacy to prisoners, and feeding the homeless. He also pursued his love for the arts, painting watercolors and authoring several novels.
He is survived by his wife Margrit Lamb, as well as CJ Lamb of South Bend, Indiana, John Lamb, Jr. of Southborough, MA, Jennifer Chen, of Action, MA , Chris Lamb of Princeton, NJ, Andy Cracknell of Beverly, MA, Liesl Gilman of Dedham and an extended family including 10 grandchildren.
