Lohrer, Ruth L.

Lohrer, Ruth for website

Ruth Leona Lohrer passed peacefully from this life July 5, 2018 in Norwood, MA. Born in Jamaica Plain to Elizabeth and Leo Lohrer Feb. 24, 1921, Ruth grew up in Jamaica Plain.  She attended Girls Latin School, now known as Boston Latin Academy, and received a scholarship to attend The Fay School to prepare for a career in banking.  She served the State Street Bank and Trust Company in a number of capacities for 63 years exceeding the record set by the late Allan Forbes, State Street President.   She began April 1, 1940 and retired in 2003. Ruth was a member of the Greater Boston Bankers Association and the Grand Chapter of the MA Order of the Eastern Star, Contentment Chapter.  For many years she served as a polling official during elections at the Berkeley Street polling location, retiring in 1993.  Her brother Martin R. Lohrer and sister-in-law Betty of Westwood predeceased her.  Her brother Richard and his wife Ruth G. of Palos Verdes, CA survive her.  Ruth also leaves Martin’s two daughters, Dorothy Lohrer Dobson (Kevin) and Jane Lohrer Mac Neil (Donald), and Richard’s three sons, Richard, Jr. (Mary Sarr), William, and Andrew (Masumi) and three grand nephews, Tai, Ko, and Kaz who live in Hamilton, NZ in addition to a niece Elizabeth Lohrer Hall (Richard).  Ruth thoroughly enjoyed her work in many departments of the State Street organization.  She paid scrupulous attention to detail and had an amazing memory.  She was honored on the 60th anniversary of her service to the bank and was well regarded by her colleagues there.  She enjoyed travel domestically and internationally.  She was consistently kind, caring, and generous with her family and friends and always professional in her business dealings.  A graveside service is scheduled for 12 noon at Forest Hills Cemetery Wednesday, July 11.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Ruth’s memory be made to the Greater Boston Food Bank or Rosie’s Place.
