Lane, Paul A.
Paul A. Lane, a long time resident of Dedham, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Norwood Hospital. He was 93 years old. Paul was born in Boston on June 29, 1924 and was the son of David and Hanora (Noonan) Lane. At the age of 18, Paul enlisted into the United States Navy and entered the V-12 program and took classes at at both Trinity College and Harvard in order to become a commissioned officer. He was commissioned in 1945 and was sent overseas where he was stationed at the Naval Air and Amphibious Bases on the islands of Kwaualein, Marcus and Guam, located in the Asiatic Pacific. He was honorably discharged in July of 1946 and was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon, the WWII Victory Ribbon, and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon for his service. He Married Anna (West) and later moved to Dedham where they raised their six children. Paul had earned a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Massachusetts Amherst and was hired as an insurance underwriter for John Hancock Financial.
Paul was the devoted husband of the late Anna M. (West) and was the dear father of Thomas P. Lane and his wife Judith of Carlisle, David E. Lane and his wife Mary of Canton, Stephen J. Lane of Dedham, Susan M. Szczesny and her husband Edward of Mystic, CT, Patricia A. Furlong and her husband Douglas of Walpole, and the late Alan J. Lane and daughter-in-law Susan Murphy of Westwood. He was the loving grandfather to Christina Szczesny, Lauren Szczesny, Andrew Szczesny, Catherine Furlong, John Furlong , Allison Furlong, Brian Lane, Mark Lane, and Brendan Murphy. Paul is the brother of Esther Lane of Attleboro, and the brother-in-law to Dorothy West of Westwood. Visitation for Paul will be held on Friday from 4-8 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home at 9AM on Saturday and proceed to St. Anne Church, 82 W. Milton Street, Hyde Park, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM. Interment to follow at Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA, 02284.
