Simon, Douglas
It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas E. Simon announces his sudden passing on Friday, November 24th at the age of 55. Doug will forever by remembered by his devoted wife of 22 years, Joyce McGrew Simon; his three adoring sons, Kyle M., Nicholas B., and Jacob R. Simon; his loving parents, Louise A. and Al Lawrence; his two sisters, Karen L. Johnson and Susan Vale; his brother Steven Lawrence; several special nieces and nephews, and too many friends to count. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul A. Simon and his brother, Bobby Lawrence.
A third generation resident of Westwood, Doug was very involved with Troop 1 Islington Boy Scouts, and especially enjoyed attending countless campouts with his sons and their friends. He was a great cook and was well-known for his clam chowder. An all-around “man’s man”, Doug loved to work in his yard, tinker with cars with his best friend Mark, and build stuff with his other best friend Gregg. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his “gang” of special friends.
Doug attended Northeastern University and worked as an IT Project Manager for a hotel chain in Boston. Doug was retired from the US Coast Guard, and was a proud member of the Patriot Guard Riders.
Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Doug’s life on Sunday, December 3rd from 10 am to 2:00 pm with a memorial service at 1PM the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Our Military Kids, 6861 Elm Street, Suite 2A, McLean, VA 22101.
Joyce, So very sorry to hear of Doug’s passing, may time be good to you and your boys.
Sincerely, John Logiudice
A great friend and I remember all the fun things we did growing up. You will missed. Rest In Peace
I worked with Doug for a number of years at Nokia and he impressed me as someone who was knowledgeable, friendly and a great manager. He always followed up and when he popped into your cube to check on how things were going he was a great conversationalist. He was instrumental in us getting our software product our to production and with high quality and repeatability and was always genuinely interested in listening to people and understanding what was going on in work on in their lives.
A good man, gone far too soon.
My condolences
Frank Kelly

Doug was a big bear of a guy, always smiling and always willing to pitch in to help anyone who needed it. We worked together at NU in Information Services and Doug was a true professional in an environment with too many amateurs (like me).
Joyce, hope you and the boys can get through this okay. I’m pretty sure Doug would want that too.
