Mugridge, Louise
Louise (Jordan) Mugridge, a resident of Westwood since 1953, died Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Edelweiss Village in West Roxbury. She was 97. Louise was born June 24, 1919 in Newton, Massachusetts, a daughter of William Taylor and Marie Marguerite (Stucklen) Jordan. She graduated from Watertown High School with the class of 1936 and earned her Bachelor degree from Simmons College with the class of 1940. Louise worked for 7 years as a financial researcher of Scudder, Stevens & Clark, and then an additional 7 years as an executive secretary for Gulf Oil Company before leaving the workforce to raise her family. She returned to the workforce after her husband’s death in 1980 and spent a dozen years as an aide at Westwood Lodge attending to troubled youth, which she found very fulfilling. Louise was a member of the Islington Community Church where she held “every office in the church” as well as running the Mother’s Morning Out nursery school at the church. Louise was the wife of the late Ernest Campbell Mugridge, and the sister of the late Nancy Strohmeyer. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy L, Mastronardi, and her husband Andrew, of Austin, Texas; her son, William C. Mugridge, and his wife Mary, of Liverpool, New York; her four grandchildren, Jeffrey Mugridge, Bethany Mugridge, Jordan A. Mastronardi, and Cory Ganschow; 5 great grandchildren, and her Siamese cat, Cocoa. Private interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Boston. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11 am at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood. In lieu of flowers donations to Edelweiss Village, 2220 Centre Street, West Roxbury, MA 02132 would be appreciated.
I loved Louise❤ She was a great mentor at Islington Community Church. Always spoke so highly of her Nancy and her Bill. Haven’t seen her since I left Islington in 2010.Even as she walked around Roche Bros leaning heavily on her shopping cart she was always smiling and always had a kind word. I regret not coming back to locate her and take her out to lunch. I hope she got to play bridge till the end. With fond memories, I wish her family peace and strength. Love, Laura Scanlon
Calvin and I send our thoughts and prayers to Nancy and Bill and the rest of Louise’s family. Louise was a great lady and I love the picture of her. It shows her intelligent warm personality which made her so special. I wish that I had been up to visiting her in recent years, but Calvin along with Arthur Early did have a most enjoyable visit with her last year. I’m sure her family has many wonderful memories of her as we do. It is so sad to lose another friend from the Islington Community Church.
We at First Baptist of Westwood, and I as pastor, truly cherished Louise. She has been described by a church member as “salt of the earth.” Indeed, this is true. She was a joy and a gift! Prayers for all the family…
