Maxwell, William B.

William Becker Maxwell, a resident of Concord, and formerly of Hawaii, died Sunday, March 5, 2017 at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Roslindale.  He was 78.  William was born January 6, 1939 in Orange, California, the son of Overton Key and Marion (Becker) Maxwell.  Mr. Maxwell loved speed yet was surprisingly graceful on his feet. He was the California State Roller Skating Champion in freestyle, dance, and speed roller skating in the late 1950s and held the California speed roller skating record for over 30 years. Later in life, he turned in his roller skates for fast cars, his favorite racing car was his AC Cobra.  Mr. Maxwell was an electrical engineer who specialized in research and development as it pertained to medical devices and electron microscopes.  He helped to develop amplifiers and medical devices, including an early version of the heart monitor. He shares a patent for a detection system for environmental microscopes which opened up new areas for high resolution imaging, notably in biotech.  William was the husband of the late Sandra L. (Larsen) and the father of Tiffany Maxwell Wallace, and her husband Donald, of Natick, and Heather S. Mook, and her husband Stephen, of Roslindale. He was the grandfather of Ashley, Erik, Rayna, and Maxwell. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary “Penny” Gainer of TN and Willow Depew of OR, and his former wife Carol Terlizzi Maxwell.  Visiting hours will be held Friday, March 10, 2017  from 7:00-8:00 P.M. at the Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Avenue, ROSLINDALE followed by his Memorial Service at the funeral home at 8:00 P.M. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations to the MSPCA, 350 S. Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02130 would be appreciated.
